Amber Heard, a former actress, is facing charges of perjury and lying under oath during her ex-husband Johnny Depp’s defamation trial. Heard testified that the only difference between two photographs was the light being turned on. She claimed to have edited the photos to make her face look more red.
As the case progressed, there was more objective evidence that she was lying about things under oath, which crossed the line into the possibility of fabricating evidence.
A defamation lawyer, Aaron Mink, stated that as the case neared its conclusion, he changed his mind, believing that as more objective evidence emerged that she was lying about things under oath, it crossed the line into the possibility of fabricating evidence. He hoped that prosecutors would look into this closely, as there are certain questions being raised in the trial right now.
Heard appeared on the Dutch talk show RTL Late Night in 2018, discussing her divorce settlement with Johnny Depp, which was split between the ACL and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. She testified under oath in depth 2020 liable case in the UK claiming multiple times that she had donated the entire divorce settlement to charity. On Monday, May 16th, when Heard took the stand in Fairfax Virginia, she finally admitted to failing to pay her pledge 3.5 million donations to the ACL despite previously claiming to have done so. He then went on to blame Mr. Depp for an inability to donate the money because he had sued her.
Legal experts believe that Heard could face a police investigation, potentially leading to a prison sentence of up to seven years after admitting to not donating 3.5 million from her divorce settlement with Johnny Depp to charity. Sean Caufield, a partner at law firm Hodge Jones and Allen Heard, believes that perjury is the single greatest threat to the justice system, and the police may be called in to investigate to demonstrate that any member of the public who lies to the court can be prosecuted for perjury.
Caufield also suggested that police investigate the claims describing how Herd’s legal team is being severely outgunned by Depp’s lawyers. He added that it would be difficult to bring and prosecute a perjury case, as it would require demonstrating that someone purposely told an untruth rather than being confused or misremembering.
The case is about what happened during the relationship, not what she spent her money on. Celebrities may have restricted access to bank accounts and may believe they have made or committed to the donation, but it is unlikely that they will charge anyone.
Amber Heard has been accused of lying several times, including a concealer and color correcting kit she claimed she used to cover bruises from her alleged physically abusive relationship with Johnny Depp. Amber’s lawyer, Ben Rottenborn, delivered opening statements, claiming that the concealer and color correcting kit was used to hide and cover bruises. However, the makeup brand exposed the product, claiming it was not available until after Herd and Depth divorced.
A photo of Amber with a bloody lip, which she claims was caused by a violent attack by her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, was obtained as evidence. However, the judge required the photo to be submitted during the discovery phase, and the metadata of the photo proves it was taken in 2012. Ms. Heard testified during the UK libel trial that her first incident of violence occurred in 2013. She now testifies that she made a mistake with her UK dates and obtained a log of appointments by Amber with her therapist, showing she was discussing abuse in early 2012.
Ms. Heard also convinced a witness, Kevin Murphy, to lie for her safer side. Murphy testified against a British tabloid accusing Johnny Depp of abusing Amber Heard physically when Amber was charged with illegally bringing her two dogs to Australia during Johnny Depp’s libel case. Murphy admitted that heard instructed him to claim that she was unaware of Australian laws concerning dog importation and threatened him if he did not follow the plot.
Murphy was accused of lying to an Australian court by making a false declaration, but the estate manager was afraid of losing his job. He responded that he would have made Amber’s life miserable if he had intervened instead of lying under oath.
