Amber Depp, the Aquaman actress, has been facing multiple legal battles since the addictive lawsuit between Johnny Depp and Amber. Amber is currently being sued by New York Marine and General Insurance Company, which insured Amber from July 2018 to July 2019. The company aims to absolve itself of paying for Amber’s defense in her defamation case against Johnny Depp, affirm that it will not be required to pay the money Herd now owes her ex according to the verdict, and avoid picking up the tab for any further litigation expense.
The suit claims that Amber was covered by an insurance policy valued at one million dollars during the time frame of July 2018 to July 2019. However, New York Marine argues that an insurer is not liable for a loss caused by the willful act of the insured, as the jury ruled that Amber acted with malice. The filing also notes that New York Marine accepted Cameron McAvoy Law Firm as Amber’s defense in October 2019, but withdrew from the case in November 2020, allegedly at the behest of the actress herself or her team.
New York Marine insured Amber during a key portion of the defamation case, which included the publication of the 2018 Washington Post Open Set at the center of the legal conflict. Amber blamed her lack of commitment to the pledge on Depp’s lawsuit, and her attorney, Elaine, told the court that Amber had paid six million dollars in legal fees.
It is difficult to predict how the fallout from the defamation case will be resolved, and if this latest lawsuit from New York Marine comes to play, Amber may not escape from legal torment for a while.
